Among the most popular benefits of SOAR membership is access to special events held throughout the year. From distinguished speakers, to member luncheons, to music and dance performances, special events allow SOAR members and their guests to enjoy rich cultural and social experiences.
Recent special events have featured blues singer Robert Jones, a retrospective of the music of Richard Stohr, and Sinatra Night.
Special Event Registration
Participation in special events is open to SOAR members and their guests, as space allows. Members should pre-register for an event and reserve a space before the reservation deadline specified in the special event description. Descriptions appear on the SOAR website and in the course schedules mailed to members during the year.
Kennedy Assassination Mock Trial
Nearly 200 members and guests joined SOAR and the Macomb County Bar Foundation on November 10th for an entertaining enactment of a mock trial of John F. Kennedy's alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald. Arguing that Oswald acted alone was Judge Carl Marlinga. Presenting evidence that the murder was a conspiracy was West Bloomfield Trustee Steven Kaplan. Judge James Wittenberg presided and Judges Joe Boedeker and John Chmura acted as key witnesses. The audience, acting as the grand jury, voted overwhelmingly that Oswald acted alone.
The event was repeated in Macomb County. To view a film of the trial, click here.
